Over 6,100 toys were donated, including approximately 150 bikes. Nearly 1,500 children will be served, including 1,000 from Beaufort County, however the toy drive was also able to assist families in Hyde, Washington and Tyrrell counties.

Mrs. Mary Blount Shepard, 89, a resident of Garden of Pamlico and formerly of the Royal community, Aurora, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Carolina East Medical Center. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter Baptist Church Ministries.
